The Statewide Independent Assurance Database (SIAD) Overview

Revision Date: 7/13/2017

Background

The Statewide Independent Assurance Database (SIAD) is a web application developed by the California Department of Transportation, Materials Engineering & Testing Services (METS) to allow Independent Assurance (IA) staff the ability to easily submit technician and laboratory information into a statewide database via the internet. The SIAD serves as a central repository for statewide IA data pertaining to IA staff, testing personnel, and laboratories. The database provides instant access to view real-time statewide IA accreditations, certifications and proficiencies.

How Data is Updated

District and Local Assistance IA personnel are granted specific permissions through their login account. These permissions allow personnel to upload current data and/or update data for technicians and laboratories. To verify accuracy of the data it is recommended that technicians and laboratories visit the SIAD to review their information. Technicians and laboratories should contact their respective IA personnel if they discover discrepancies or inaccuracies with their technician or laboratory profile.

Reviewing Data

Statewide IA data can be viewed at http://sia.dot.ca.gov. The SIAD homepage provides access to laboratory data, technician data, IA staff contact information, and the IA program webpage.

Laboratory Data

Laboratories can be searched for through the database by name, district, city, and/or test method. Each laboratory has data tracked on test methods and proficiencies they are accredited to perform and the status of those accreditations (active or expired). Each laboratory displays all technicians associated with it and their certification status to perform the given test or proficiency.

Technician Data

Technicians can be searched for through the database by name, lab(s) they are associated with, and/or test methods or proficiencies they are certified to perform. Each technician has data tracked on test methods and proficiencies they are certified to perform, and the status of those certifications (active or expired). Each technician displays all labs they are associated with. If the technician is linked with more than one lab the database identifies which lab’s scope the specific test method or proficiency is associated with. For more detailed directions on how to review technician or laboratory data refer to the Statewide Independent Assurance (SIAD) Instructional Guide available on the home page.

Who to Contact

If you discover any discrepancies or inaccuracies with technician/laboratory profiles, or to avoid lapses in certification/accreditation contact your respective Independent Assurance personnel.
